A Family Who Shoots Archery Together, Stays Together with Duane Price

Apr142008_01Editor’s Note: Duane Price is not only a hunter and a tournament field archer, but he’s the father and the husband of an entire family of hunters and field archers who use Alpen binoculars when they compete, and when they hunt. This week, let’s take a look at the family that hunts and shoots target archery together.

Question: Duane, you not only shoot tournament archery, but your entire family uses Alpen binoculars, don’t they?

Apr142008_03Price: Yes, we do. We use them extensively for everything from turkey hunting to duck hunting, goose hunting and bow and gun deer hunting. We don’t leave home without our Alpen binoculars. If a member of my family is in the woods, Alpen binoculars will be around his or her neck. Even if we’re just looking for squirrels or walking down a logging road, we carry our binoculars to verify what we think we see. That’s one of the biggest advantages of binoculars. They allow you to be certain of what you see when you’re out in the woods. For instance, you may think you see the inside white of a deer’s ear, but when you look with your binoculars, it may be the white under a bird’s wing.

Apr142008_02We use our binoculars to be able to see the little details that can turn an unsuccessful hunt into a successful hunt. With the clarity and the brightness of Alpen binoculars, we’re often able to pick up on little things that the naked eye can’t see. Alpen binoculars are best in low-light conditions because they’re really bright, and they gather a lot of light. During the early morning, when we’re waiting for ducks to come in and need to be able to see clearly to identify the ducks we’re hearing, our Alpen binoculars give us that advantage. During those last minutes of daylight on a whitetail hunt, the Alpen binoculars allow us to see a deer we might not otherwise be able to see.

Question: Who in your family uses Alpen binoculars?

Price: My 15-year-old son, Matthew, my 13-year-old son, Zachary, my 12-year-old son, Joseph, my wife and I all use Alpen binoculars.

Apr142008_04Question: You shoot tournament archery, don’t you?

Price: I shoot for Mathews Archery, T.R.U. Ball, Axcel Sights, Easton Trophy Takers, Specialty Archery, NAP (New Archery Products) and SpyderWeb Targets.

Question: How have you been doing in archery?
Price: I’ve been doing really well. I took fourth in Iowa and fourth at Lancaster. At the National Field Archery Association Nationals, I placed second in a 10-man shoot off. The year before, I took first place at the NAA Indoor Nationals. I also won the Las Vegas tournament. Ever since 1999, I’ve done fairly well in national shoots. I don’t shoot as many 3-D shoots as I did in the past because of family commitments. My sons are very active in wrestling, baseball and football. So, I’ve decided to spend more time with my boys in the summer and be more of a dad and less of an archer.
